Unlike any other bird, when Black Skimmers are exposed to bright light the pupil is reduced in size into the form of a  vertical slit.

A brief description of a trip to California in 2010 to photograph wildflowers. A number of stops were made to check out birding hotspots that I had not visited previously. Photos of the rare (in the U.S.) and beautiful Elegant Trogon were obtained in the Patagonia Lake State Park in Arizona.
